A round jeon like a harvest moon,

One sour sip of makgeolli on the tongue.

Emotions spent without mercy,

Tucked behind fierce desires,

Like an addict bathing in rice wine instead of guilt.

Blood flushes red, riding breath to brain,

Digging up memory’s shattered glass—

One by one, old fragments flung

Onto the scuffed floor of Jongno’s Train House bar.

Our petty, anchovy-sized hearts of aging time

Explode in forgotten grudges,

Shake loose the bitterness hidden in twisted recall,

Then, with a sour laugh and a long drink,

Make peace with the pain for a moment.

City souls soaked in makgeolli’s dopamine spell,

Returning like prodigals, foul-mouthed but free,

Even the fickleness of raw emotion

Feels worthy of worship.

In search of the ultimate aphrodisiac

To seduce our frayed, threadbare spirits,

We gather here,

Licking the bones of our dried-out existence.

“O friends, this—

This is Earth’s mightiest reunion.”
